Daniel D. Covington

Dan Covington is a partner at Petefish, Immel, Hird, Johnson & Leibold, LLP, in Lawrence, Kansas, and has been practicing law since 1999. He is active in estate planning and business planning, business and commercial law, real estate, and litigating civil matters. He has experience representing business clients ranging from banks to farms and dairies, and from cities to telephone companies and commercial toy and novelty distributors. He has counseled the purchase or sale of a variety of business interests including banks, craft stores, pharmacies, equipment supply, veterinary services, and surveying, as well as commercial and residential real estate.

He has successfully prosecuted and defended appeals in the Kansas Court of Appeals, and won and collected a significant verdict in an international contract federal jury trial. Dan most enjoys creating estate plans. Having drafting hundreds of plans, he strives to create a dialogue so that his clients understand and receive just what they need.

Dan grew up in Kansas, earned his undergraduate degree just after high school, and served four years in the U.S. Navy before returning to Kansas to pursue graduate studies at the University of Kansas School of Law. While in law school, he was on staff of the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy, which published his article on secured transactions, and he worked for the Paul E. Wilson Defender Project.

Dan has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for a private college, a chamber of commerce and other not-for-profit organizations, having contributed more than twenty years on such boards. Dan is a member of the Kansas Bar Association and the Douglas County Bar Association.
